Branch Rally 2018

The Saturday started with the usual lunchtime gathering of Minors in the Havenstreet railway car park ready for this year’s road trip to Sandown Zoo. What soon became apparent was the condition of the thirty or so cars each
and every one polished like a new pin gleaming and shining in the summer sunshine. The cars bathed in sunshine made for a fine spectacle as we moved off in convoy to Sandown.

We couldn’t have been prouder to be a part as the convoy snaked its way across the Island over Ashey and Brading Downs,  we lost a few on the way but we all made it to Sandown Zoo in the end.

The highlight of the Zoo were the three new tigers taking full advantage of the plunge pool on this warm and sunny day and having time to catch to catch up with some old and new friends of course.

Sunday morning Rally day was going to be another fine day. The weather this year at last was playing ball.

Chairman Will had been camping on site so much of the preparations were in place. A stage set, tables in place awash with raffle and tombola prizes and even new gazebo tents ready for the clubs donated auto jumble yet to be
 arranged.

The Old Girl open top classic bus went out packed to the rafters on her mystery tours on what must have been awesome trips on this sunny day. Stars of 45 band performed the songs from yesteryear to the delighted crowd while falconry displays were shown throughout the day. There may have not been the seventy Minors that we were hoping for, but there was a large collection of other classic cars on show and some truly remarkable cars for all to enjoy. Quite a spectacle as they shone in the beautiful sunshine.

The five awarded cars were exceptional and the raffle completed this amazing weekend Rally.

Big thanks to Will for his hard work and all the other committee members and helpers, the Steam Railway, IOW Zoo, the IOW Bus and Coach Museum. Sponsors Tim Lang, Wight Business Services, SES and Barry Price. The band ‘Stars of 45’ all our visitors from the mainland and anyone else I’ve forgotten. Thank you all for making the rally such a success.

The club made a profit with our commitment to charity realized so at the end of the day a good day all round.
