Rally Report 2022

Sept 3rd/4th 2022 IOWMMOC Rally Report

The weather forecast for the weekend was changeable at least so we weren’t sure how it would go, but as luck would have it the sunshine gods were on our side.

Saturday afternoon, we had twenty Morris Minors and a few regular cars for the scenic car run over the downs to the Bus & Coach Museum in Ryde where after a look round the amazing number of buses, coaches and a welcome tea break it was off on a classic courtesy Bus for a visit to Victor’s vast collection of Classic Cars on Ryde Seafront. Some really wonderful cars there and someone’s favourites there, I’m sure. After a while we heading back on another courtesy classic bus to our cars parked up at the museum car park. Thankyou IOW Bus & Coach Museum.

Saturday evening our large drum BBQ was set alight in the events field at Havenstreet in plenty of time to accommodate the large feast of hungry Minor owners. With sausages, chicken legs, beef burgers and steaks, rounded off with trifles, gateau and a lemon pie. It was nice to be able to get to meet our friends from overseas and share a joke or two. A most enjoyable evening.

Sunday rally day went like clockwork at Havenstreet thanks to the efforts of the committee and helpers. Even the PA kindly loaned by Paul Robinson worked eventually. With over fifty Minors and twenty other Classic Cars coming from far and wide and stalls of all sorts there was plenty to see and do, also it was a great chance to meet up with some old friends and makes some new. Dave B performed three great sets of toe tapping music for us throughout the day, and our announcer on the day Alan Peeling did a sterling job informing and bringing the rally together.

The Old Girl Bus kindly loaned to us for the day by Southern Vectis made two packed trips out from the events field on mystery tours. Haven Falconry birds did perform two smaller performances as they were also performing at Woolverton Garden show today. The crowds ebbed and flowed throughout the day taking advantage of the programs and plaque offer with a generous offer from the Steam Railway of a five pound off the price of a train ticket with the production of the plaque. The Rally ended with the prize presentations and the customary raffle prize giving ending a most successful day judging by the smiles on the faces and the takings on the day, raising some £250 for the Wessex Cancer Trust for the important work they do, also for the continued running of their Daisy Bus for Islanders.
